The Scandinavian country's Trade and Investment minister Pia Olsen Dyhr said in Nairobi today that Denmark will increase investment in Wind generated energy. This is expected to boost Kenya's quest towards reliable and affordable energy, a move that could lower the cost of doing business besides possibly leading to a drop in your power bill. Preservation of databases has been an important task for the Danish National Archives since 1973. Contents from both business systems and records management systems are transferred as relationel databases. Thus, all of the approximately 3600 AIPs of born-digital material in our collection consist of files exported from databases. Archiving the content from databases, even from records management systems, allows us to keep the same metadata about the files and documents that the agency in question found important for themselves, rather than set up a specific standard for mandatory metadata. Instead, we have a very specific standard for the structure, content and formats in SIPs that we have issued as an executive order. This standard specifies a generic SIP that must be used for all transfers, no matter if they come from RMS or business systems. All SIPs must be produced by the records creator and at the expense of the records creator. All digital records from public agencies must be transferred according to this executive order, no matter if data are transferred to the National Archives or to a municipal archive. This presentation will describe the current standard for SIPs and discuss the experiences of having a very specific standard for SIPs. The presentation will also address the connection between regulations for notification and approval of new it-systems and the standard for SIP and outline some of the current challenges to our set-up.
